This week has been very positive all over with Luis Suarez and, notably, Diego Forlan having fantastic weeks. Enjoy LCB’s Top 5 Highlights of the week!
#5. Southampton 1- QPR- 2: Gaston Ramirez scores a great goal in a painful loss to Queens Park Rangers
Gaston Ramirez calmly chipped it over the QPR Goalkeeper to tie the game at 1-1. Unfortunately for Southampton, a loss vs. their relegation rivals significantly dampened their campaign to stay in the Premier League. Here is the current table:

#4. Gustavo Poyet’s Brighton and Holve Albion now a Top 6 side.
Brighton and Hove Albion defeated Huddersfield Town 4-1 this weekend, finally seeing Brighton occupy a Top 6 position in the English Championship (Division 2). At the end of the season (nearly 10 games away), promotion to the Premier League occurs like this: The 1st and 2nd placed teams qualify automatically to the EPL. The 3rd promotion spot is given to the winner of a Play-Off semi final between the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th place teams. Brighton had a poor start to the season, but have only lost 1 out of the last 10 games. Here is the current table:

#3. Uruguayan League: Peñarol back on track

Peñarol’s push for their 47th title (Nacional currently has 44) is back on track with a 2-0 win over River Plate. Nacional, on the other hand, just accepted their manager, Gustavo Diaz’s, surprising resignation after drawing Cerro Largo 1-1. Here is the current 2012/2013 Clausura Table:

#2. Liverpool 4- Wigan- 0: Luis Suarez’s 3rd Hat Trick makes him the EPL’s current top scorer!

Joe Allen on Luis Suarez : "His relationship not only with the players he plays with, but also the fans, doesn't really happen that often'
Luis Suarez gifted fans (and anyone watching) with yet another magnificent hat trick performance, reaching 21 goals to Robin Van Persie’s 19. As of right now, Liverpool are playing like one of the best teams in England. However, they are 10 pts behind Chelsea for the coveted final Champions League spot. If they maintain this form and defeat the big teams coming up (specifically: Chelsea, Tottenham and Everton. All at home), they have a good chance to make this season a success. Here is the current table:
#1. Diego Forlan is on fire!
6 goals in 6 games: Diego Forlan is playing like a player possessed after last year’s disappointing half-season in the Brazilian Serie A. A little over a month ago, ‘El Cacha’ predicted that he would return to his old form, so long as he got regular play and manage to do pre-season training with his team. Well he has had both provided to him and the results so far have been staggering. With his two goals earlier today, Inter of Porto Alegre have qualified to the final of the Gaùcho Tournament. This tournament is the equivalent of the Uruguayan “Apertura Tournament” in Brazil, except with a final playoff tournament.

I saw forlan’s goals. The first one was particularly impressive and brought back memories of 2010

With the way Arsenal is playing as of late, if Liverpool are a bit more ambitious they might be able to leapfrog over them and Everton.
Cracking that top 4 might be asking too much though.

Not to mention the way Liverpool are playing. They beat West Ham away 2-3, then lost to Aston Villa 1-3 at home. Then they beat Fulham 4-0 and lost to Stoke 3-1. They then went on good run only spoiled by the expected loss to Man. U.:
Queens Park Rangers 0-3 Liverpool
Liverpool 3-0 Sunderland
Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool
Liverpool 5-0 Norwich City
Arsenal 2-2 Liverpool
Manchester City 2-2 Liverpool
Just as things are looking pretty good:
Liverpool 0-2 West Bromwich Albion
And their latest wins have been against Swansea’s B team and bottom-dwelling Wigan:
Liverpool 5-0 Swansea City
Wigan Athletic 0-4 Liverpool
I believe they can surpass Everton and even Arsenal, but every time people start saying Liverpool is on track to reach 4th place, they blow a game. In their favor is the fact that, with the exception of Tottenham, Chelsea and Everton (against all of whom they will be playing at home), the rest of the season’s games are against bottom half clubs. Liverpool is certainly capable of winning all of those games. The biggest test will be Tottenham – if they beat Tottenham, then they have an excellent chance of ending in 5th place, but it seems unlikely (though possible) that Chelsea and Tottenham will lose enough games for both of them to be passed up by Liverpool. It would be awesome if that were to happen though. I will be cheering them on and praying that they don’t push the self-destruct button.
