Some notable transfer stories to report involving some former national team players, wannabe NT players and guys we’ve been pimping that should be on the NT.
FORMER CELESTE PLAYERS ON THE GO…
Nacho González –– last time we checked on him, everything was roses. Turns out that despite having a year left on his contract, Standard Liège has decided not to play Nacho in official games anymore. La Oral Deportiva interviewed him, and provided an excellent audio interview… have a listen. We wish Nacho only the best in his professional career as he has always been a standup guy with this Blog and a man of his word. At this point, Nacho’s options don’t look good, he can stay and fulfill his contract at Standard Liège, but will probably not be played or… he can continue his career in Mexico, Argentina or Brazil, going to a new country is always a dicey proposition, but maybe if he goes to a big club like Boca Jrs or Flamengo, who knows? When this Blog interviewed him, Nacho stated he would like to finish his playing career with Danubio, so a return to Uruguay’s Primera is also possible although unlikely at this stage of his career.
Flaco Fernández –– The only NT player to crack the MLS, everything was fine when he was playing with the Seattle Sounders, but a move to the Chicago Fire ended pretty much the same way it did for Nery Castillo… for some reason the Chicago Fire continues to be the elephant graveyard for Uruguay players. Chicago Fire released this statement regarding Flaco: “Flaco was interested in exploring options abroad in search of national team playing time and this situation allows him that chance.” • Anyway, Chicago Fire have loaned him out to Al Rayyan, the same Qatari club that employs Diego Aguirre as their football manager. Federico Puppo, although not a NT player, was also loaned out by Chicago Fire to LDU Quito in Ecuador.
ALMOST CELESTE PLAYERS ON THE GO…
Mauricio Pereyra –– the former Nacional midfielder who Carrasco had no use for but who still managed to earn a spot with Lanús as the deFacto playmaker will be sold to FC Krasnodar from the Russian Premier League.
SOMEONE WE LOVE BUSTING YOUR BALLS WITH…
Joaquin Boghossian –– Ah yes, one of this Blog’s favorite possible solutions to the NT. Yes, so what if he never panned out in Nacional or in Austria, you’ll be happy to know that JOAQUIN BOGHOSSIAN was transferred to CERCLE BRUGGE KSV; thereby guaranteeing that he’ll never be selected for the NT. Somewhere in Montevideo in between his mate sips, Abreu is smiling

“Abreu is smiling”… a good one!
What’s wrong with Ignacio González?… I thought that he was so exceptional and suddenly he was laid on ice in his Belgian club. Now his NT recall seems very unlikely indeed.

In a nutshell, New Coaching staff doesn’t want to play him., possibly a request from Upper-Management who wants to shed Nacho’s salary from it’s payroll.
