Cambió el himno. Sabremos Sufrir
The feeling in your soul is gonna take control. Nothing can hold you back if you really want it. I see it in your eyes, you want The Cup of Life. Now that the day is here gotta go and get it. Do you really want it? Do you really want it? Do you really want it? YES! Here we go Alé Alé Alé! Go Go Go! Alé Alé Alé! Tonight’s the night we’re gonna celebrate, The Cup of Life Alé Alé Alé.

The score does not fairly reflect the superiority displayed by Uruguay during the match. It was wave after wave of pressure on the Costa Rican team. There was triangulation, short passing, good scoring opportunities (that were missed), even Eguren at one moment dribbling like Messi. Uruguay had success moving the ball up the wings with the Pereira’s and Suarez, and through the center with Lodeiro and Forlan. Anywhere they wanted, just could not get that crucial goal. The players, even with the carnival atmosphere of El Centenario, were able to play with a level head. Clearly, the better team won the repechaje.
Costa Rica were not allowed to build up any play during the game. They resorted to the “pelotazo” and on one particular play, it worked (although there was a bit of a push on Lugano by Saborio).
I saw that Simoes has complained about the referee, again! But this must be the 1st game I ever saw where 3 players (Suarez, Lugano, Godin) had their shirts ripped by all the tugging, and any time Forlan touched the ball, he was clipped. And no call. Like the commentator said, it almost looked like a game of “Red Rover” or “British Bulldog”
Last paragraph, meant to say “no yellow card”, not “No call”.
Who’s gonna acknowledge the 2 following things?…
1) I predicted this wouldn’t be exactly a piece of cake
2) We almost collapsed (they missed 2 goal situations after the 1-1) as simple as it sounds.
Yorugua! if you were not nervous in those moments of the game, you are officially the new La Celeste’s PECHO FRÍO! lol.
Linda noche para agarrarse un pedo Celeste!! jajajaja.
Didn’t want to jinx the guys, but I never said Uruguay was going to give us a blow-out win (go back to my posts if you don’t believe me) I suspected a 0-0 draw tonight, at half-time I thought that result was going to hold true but it didn’t.
I didn’t get nervous until 20 minutes into the match, I started seeing the Costa Ricans were being allowed a lot more (as stated by FourThreeThree in his brilliant summary) by this really semi-competent Ref. The only reason Costa Rica was able to even pressure Uruguay was because they were playing dirty and the Ref was turning a blind-eye to everything (on both sides). Still I gotta say it, we do better with European Referees than with Paraguayan, Chilean & Argentinean Referees.
I think the pressure of playing in El Centenario especially with a packed house is starting to become a problem. Who would’ve thought that the site of Uruguay’s most famous wins is now the site of such bad luck. Maybe we should replace the pitch with an artificial pitch? And I’m still under the opinion that Costa Rica is an inferior opponent… they were coached better tonight but Uruguay should’ve wiped the floor with them. The pressure of playing in El Centenario was too much… lets start petitioning everyone for Uruguay to play all of their future matches at El Parque Central. Either that or a full blown exorcism is needed.
BTW — NICO me ganaste con el Post, que grande flaco!!!
pero el tuyo está más bueno
