The Great Irish Swindle

leprechaunAs per Reuters, The Football Association of Ireland which is still sore at missing out on the 2010 World Cup continues to exploit the “Henry handball controversy” —- they have apparently asked Sepp Blatter for Ireland to be the “33rd team” for the upcoming World Cup (1) which leads us to Blatter’s strange response, assuring the FAI that FIFA will “consider” it. WTF??? I don’t know about you guys but this smacks of some UEFA plot to steal a World Cup berth to me. While its unlikely that will happen as it will completely throw off FIFA’s group format and scheduling, it points to the strange occurrences that continue to happen under Blatter’s watch. EARLY VEGAS ODDS: “URUGUAY HAS NO CHANCE!”

I'm on a hot streak baby! The latest Las Vegas Odds have Brazil & Spain as the heavy favorites to win the 2010 World Cup… the odds don’t look good for Uruguay so far. These odds will surely change after December 4th but it will be interesting to see if Uruguay’s chances improve, at least in the eyes of the Vegas Oddsmakers. Amazingly France who cheated to get in is listed higher than Uruguay while the Ivory Coast is the only African nation that might have a shot as per the Vegas bookies, being listed at 25/1 to win the World Cup (not exactly inspiring too much confidence). ¿Se puede evitar la catástrofe?

arbitro

The Agony and the Ecstasy

Oscar_Tabarez_1500759cAs December 4th draws near, the anxiety of what group Uruguay will be situated in will reach boiling point (by my estimation) on Wednesday, stressful is an understatement, in reality its comparable on some level to what occurs before Uruguay plays Brazil or Argentina. What group Uruguay is situated in will decide Uruguay’s fate as it will for 31 other countries. While Ovación spoke with Oscar Tabarez about Uruguay, the possibilities of playing Nacho Gonzalez with Nicolas Lodeiro in the World Cup and other “pelotudeces” that only Ovación is famous for (1), the up & coming URUGOL nailed a better interview with Oscar Tabarez even going as far as providing an audio version of it, which I highly recommend (2). The “Mad Scientist” Formations ––– Part One.

Mad_scientist_artlibre_jnWe could talk about Uruguay & Argentina’s bid to host the 2030 World Cup, but I’ll probably be dead from a heart attack by then so let’s deal with football formations instead, I already posted mine on Wednesday, I’m still waiting on the rest of you, what are you waiting for??? ––– So far only Danubiano, FourThreeThree & NicoGF have submitted their formations, take a look at them, pretty interesting… Read the rest of this entry »

The “Ideal” Eleven… maybe?

NachoReading the Nacho Gonzalez article that appeared today in Ovación, it appears Nacho has recuperated from his injuries and is now pondering his next career move, which could  mean a move to the Greek Super League, possibly to Levadiakos (which is what Club Valencia would prefer) or a move back to Uruguay to play for Danubio. A return to Uruguay would secure more playing time for the “enganche of choice” but Valencia who owns Nacho’s transfer does not want that. A return to Uruguayan football would put Nacho in the field of vision of one Oscar Tabarez. If Nacho were to come back to Uruguay, would Uruguay’s midfield woes disappear? His reincorporation into the lineup would however allow Oscar Tabarez the opportunity to play with a bona-fide  ”enganche” or “distributor.” Nacho would also permit Tabarez to replace the sputtering Suarez with Nicolas Lodeiro giving Uruguay another on-field play-maker. So without further delay I give you the “ideal” eleven… maybe? Read the rest of this entry »
