Anyone but this guy…
Today I continue my “one man war” against Oscar Washington Tabarez, anyone reading this posting should read the post that preceded this one, “Road to 7th Place” — what do we do with this guy? he once again called up Sebastian Viera on the National Team… also called up were players who will not be playing the first WCQ match in September, OK, sure there’s another match left and I guess these players have to see some type of action, but Oscar Tabarez is the man who hides behind mediocre results and wants us to believe that those results will land Uruguay in South Africa.
The Road to 7th Place…
The line-up has been announced, just remind yourself “it’s just a friendly nothing more”… yeah right, for us its always something more. Only 4 games are left (not counting the Algeria Friendly). The possibility that Uruguay will qualify to South Africa does not look good, it’s been a long rocky road filled with more lows than highs. Here’s a recap of the games that are quickly getting us nowhere near the Dark Continent.
“Go ahead… Second Guess me!”
Nothing much to report, Romario is going to jail, Maradona is still the Argentinean Coach, Ronaldo broke his leg & River Plate might be interested in “Spectacular Failure” Chevanton —– until something more important surfaces check out my Uruguayan lineup…
Starting Eleven minus Forlan!
No Forlan, no problem! Forlan won’t be missed when Uruguay visits Lima, Peru may field a team of non-professionals/youth team, which means an easy win for Uruguay… still you need a well balanced squad, and as much as I’d like Urretavizcaya, Lodeiro & Muslera on this squad, the Colombia match is not the time to start making patty-cakes.
1) Juan Castillo : El Nando is facing added pressure to be the first place goalkeeper in Lazio, while Castillo is right smack into the Brazilian Campeonato, playing as recently as yesterday in Botafogo’s 3-2 win over Internacional. While Nando may be the way to go as far as I’m concerned, Castillo is just the right age and is not as controversial as Viera or Carini; also the 2-2 draw with Venezuela was not his fault!
Forget Peru; concentrate on Colombia!!!
With the possible Peruvian player boycott all but certain, the likelihood of Uruguay facing a squad of non-professionals grows stronger, the question I ask all of you is, wouldn’t it be in Uruguay’s interest to field “2 teams?” One made up mostly of youth players to play Peru and the other, the regular National Team to play against Colombia?
Here come the Greeks…
The 2002 WC squad is coming home… Dario Rodriguez & Richard Morales, already situated in teams (Peñarol & Fenix) will be joined by Alejandro Lembo (possibly Nacional) Mario Regueiro, another possible Nacional reinforcement & Gianni Guigou who will not join Treviso in their continuing-relegation-adventure. Another name thrown in the mix is Gustavo Varela who is presently recuperating from knee-surgery in Uruguay.
